RENOVATION
PHOTOGRAPHS - Outside

Feb 1992 - Stern Port side mooring cleat and redundant deck hole.
The deck hole had a proper cover, it was removed before I took
this photo.
Note the poor state of the deck paint

March 1993 - The new grey deck paint. The white was done later

August
1993 - The original helm. This shows my some-what unusual
framework.
I used a galvanised steel frame because I thought it
would be the strongest and easiest material for me to
work with. You might argue that it would be too heavy, but
far from it - when completed I tested it and found that
Discovery can tip to over 45degrees from vertical and
still easily right herself. |
You'll also see the custom cut
hardwood beam across in front of the helm position, this
is ready for the new cockpit windows.

July 1996 - Finished at last! This is after many months of "testing"
.. although you know nothing is ever "finished"

From here you can see new stainless steel handrails to
replace the old wooden ones - which let in water
